About Us


Steve Schmidly has 30 years experience in civil and criminal defense litigation.  His civil practice includes employment disputes, land condemnation, divorce, child custody, and personal injury cases. He has been recognized for excellence in teaching advocacy and received the Charles L. Becton award in 2001 for his service as the Mock Trial coach at Asheboro High School from 1995 to 2005.  He continues to coach the Asheboro High School Mock Trial team.

Richard R. “Dick” Roose is an experienced criminal defense litigator.  He is a former prosecutor with a vast knowledge of criminal law.  He’s defended felony cases including rape, assault, sexual abuse and capital murder.  Dick has served as President of the District Bar and as the district’s representative on the NC State Bar Council.

Brooke Schmidly served as an Air Force Judge Advocate (JAG) for 6 years where she was a prosecutor for 4 years and a military defense counsel for 2 years.  She defended 26 courts-martial for offenses including rape, child abuse, aggravated assault, and drug use and was rated “the best Area Defense Counsel in the Air Force in 2007.”

She has extensive civil litigation, personal injury and criminal defense experience. She also specializes in divorce and child custody cases involving military members.

Brooke is a JAG in the United States Air Force Reserve.  She also coaches the Asheboro High School’s Mock Trial team, is a Board Member on the Asheboro ABC Board, and is on the Board of Directors for the Volunteer Center.
